We invite you to an exclusive celebration at Gallows Hill Artists, Salem’s NEW communal studio space supporting a dedicated collective of local artists.
In early 2025, the studios underwent significant renovations, growing to 26 studios and expanding to encompass 12,000 square feet across two floors in our historic Gallows Hill building. Responding to high demand for creative workspaces, Gallows Hill Artists now hosts an expanding and diverse community engaged in a broad array of artistic styles and media.
Gallows Hill Artists is housed in a historic former tannery building in Salem’s Gallows Hill neighborhood, where original post and beam interiors evoke the spirit of its factory roots. Just steps from Proctor’s Ledge—the infamous site of the 1692 hangings—the building was constructed around 1900 as The Arthur J Mulholland Company, one of Salem’s great tanneries and a rare survivor of the Great Salem Fire of 1914.
Today, Gallows Hill Artists continues this tradition of resilience and creativity, fostering a vibrant community where artists draw inspiration from the building’s storied history and our resident artist community.
