After years immersed in the arts from an administrative perspective, Deborah Greel has turned her attention to making art herself. Her background includes serving as Executive Director of Marblehead Arts, Public Art Planner for the City of Salem, and presently the President of the Board for the Salem Arts Association. Upon retiring, she decided it was time to enter that same creative world as an emerging artist.
Drawn to the studios at Gallows Hill and the camaraderie among the artists there, Deborah took a leap of faith and joined the community. She now shares a studio with her husband, John, a realist painter.
Deborah considers herself a mixed media artist and is currently exploring collage, printing, and fiber art. A recent work inspired by a painting in the Peabody Essex Museum exhibition On This Ground: Being and Belonging in America has led her to focus more deeply on abstract work.
Deborah and John live in Salem with their scruffy 17-year-old dog. They spend as much time at the studio as their schedules allow.
