Kira Burr is an interdisciplinary artist who unites her passions through found-object mixed media. Her love of collecting vintage ephemera, treasuring the mundane items of daily life, lyric-writing and composing for piano, and collage is all evident in her “junk journals” (a term for hand-bound scrapbooks made with reclaimed and upcycled materials), artist trading cards, ephemera bundles, and more.
Kira communicates her inner emotional world and conveys messages about racial, gender, and disability justice through her work. Her art also emphasizes an appreciation of the smallest joys in day-to-day life. You might notice how her collage work contains such disparate things as a fruit sticker peeled off a juicy mango, a salvaged button from a vintage suit, or avocado-dyed embroidered paper.
In the past six months, Kira’s innovative use of recycled materials and her invention of new ways to use familiar media has earned her a viral following on social media. Through this success, Kira formed The Kreative Kure (thekreativekure on Instagram and kiraluvsthecure on TikTok), a business based out of Salem. In spring of 2026, Kira was delighted to join Gallows Hill Artists and now shares a studio with her husband, David Burr (they/them). Along with David, she is Co-founder of Boukie Games (boukie.games), a video game company where she is currently composing music for Floppy/Write and Bloom: Anhedonia. You can listen to Kira’s music on Soundcloud or Bandcamp.
