I wouldn’t say I am just a photographer, I am a digital artist, a poet with a camera. As a disabled veteran when I’m shooting in-studio or on the street, everything in my head goes away. I am self-taught, so my work is more about what I feel, and intuiting when to press the shutter. The community at Gallows Hill is a wonderful place to connect with artists and share ideas. I’ve learned things I never would have otherwise.
My wife, Nicole, is my creative muse. Our artistic dance is where the real magic occurs. Figure photography with her and others has been the ultimate challenge and I love that! I am definitely more about creating and making shoots playful, than being technically perfect. I break rules to make people stop and think. To me, a great photograph tells a story using shadow and light.
With my camera, I try to express the beauty I see. To have someone come to me after a shoot and say, ”you made me feel so confident and beautiful” is the greatest praise ever. I believe Keats nailed it when he wrote, “Beauty is truth, truth beauty,—that is all Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.”
